FAQ - Rotating Iron Technology

What is the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron?

The ORIGINAL Rotating Iron is a styling and straightening tool unlike any other. The motorized rotating barrel smoothes and polishes your hair for your shiniest, sleekest and smoothest hair ever. Your hair won't get flattened and baked like the extremely intense heat of a flat iron or other "hot" tool. The ORIGINAL Rotating Iron uses less heat than traditional hot tools, and delivers better results. The secret lies in its rotating heated polishing cylinder, tourmaline ceramic floating plate and rows of precision-aligned bristles. The 1 1/4 inches barrel size creates incredible volume and loose curls and waves. The smaller 3/4-inch barrel size is great for shorter hair, creating tight curls and bangs, as well as styling closer to the root.

My hair is coming out frizzy when I use my ORIGINAL Rotating Iron. What am I doing wrong?

Go Slowly. It helps if hair is completely dry, combed and detangled to start. Position the unit so that the barrel rotates toward the natural direction of hair. Also, try to put as little tension on the barrel as possible. This will help keep frizz to a minimum.

Does the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron work on natural African-American hair?

Absolutely! The ORIGINAL Rotating Iron is great for African-American hair because it won't leave crease marks like flat irons do, and the ceramic polishing barrel and ionic bristles will leave the hair looking shiny and beautiful. The ORIGINAL Rotating Iron is safe for any type of hair when used properly. You will get best results if your hair is dry, combed and detangled.

Can I use styling products before or after I use my ORIGINAL Rotating Iron?

You can use any salon-quality product with your ORIGINAL Rotating Iron, although we don't recommend any oil-based products on the hair beforehand. A professional thermal protectant spray can be applied to the hair before you style. Professional quality firm-up and styling sprays will help hold your style.

The ORIGINAL Rotating Iron doesn't seem to be working on my ends. Am I doing something wrong?

If you're having trouble styling the ends, try holding the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron on your ends for a few seconds longer. The ends of the hair are normally the driest part of the hair, and can be a bit more difficult to set. It helps to use a good conditioner, especially on the ends, to help infuse moisture into the hair shaft. Also, if you have split ends, the hair may come out looking frizzy.

I see smoke coming from my hair! Is it burning my hair?

No! The ORIGINAL Rotating Iron is not burning your hair! This is just a by-product of the evaporation of built-up conditioner or styling products, and is completely normal.

Can I use the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron with real human hair extensions?

Yes. Make sure you start working with the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron below where the extension is attached. Do not drag the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron through the hair with any pressure, as you may inadvertently pull out the extension. NEVER use your ORIGINAL Rotating Iron with synthetic hair.

How is the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron different from my flat iron?

Simple: A flat iron compresses, mashes, and then literally bakes your hair between two extremely hot plates. By pressing and ironing your hair strands together, a flat iron gives you hair that is about as full and bouncy as a sheet of paper. The ORIGINAL Rotating Iron's rotating heated polishing cylinder gives your hair the heat it needs to help style and straighten – and because the cylinder is constantly moving, it won't "press and bake" like a traditional flat iron. The ORIGINAL's bristles comb and separate your hair, while the rotating motion of the heated cylinder literally polishes each hair strand with a smooth "buffing" action, delivering much more sheen, shine and body. This polishing allows the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron to actually use less heat than a flat iron and get much better results. Plus, you can actually use the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron as a styling tool since the curvature of the heated polishing cylinder allows you to do flips, curls and add volume that you just can't do with a flat iron.

I need a lot of heat to straighten my hair. Will the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron get hot enough?

The ORIGINAL Rotating Iron's unique design allows you to use less heat than you are used to, and still get better results than you would with a flat iron or other hot tool. It's a totally new way of thinking about heat and your hair – you don't need the extreme heat to get the results you want. If you decide that you would like more heat, ORIGINAL Rotating Iron has four different temperature settings and goes up to 410°F.

How do I use the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron as compared to my flat iron?

The technique is similar in that you put your hair into your ORIGINAL Rotating Iron, you close the product on your hair, and then slowly move down the length of your hair. That is where the similarities end! The rotating heated polishing cylinder and bristles will do most of the work for you. Plus, you'll find that you can do much, much more with your ORIGINAL Rotating Iron than you could ever do with your flat iron.

Can I use the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron like a curling iron?

Absolutely! Curl your hair by wrapping it around the rotating polishing cylinder. Carefully wrap a section of hair around the barrel. Close the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron and rotate your wrist to ensure the ends of your hair are included. Let the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron rotate for 5-10 seconds. Open the unit and let the hair drop from the barrel.

The heated polishing cylinder rotates. Can my hair get tangled?

No. The surface of the rotating heated polishing cylinder is totally smooth, so your hair will not get tangled.

What is the thermal shield?

The ORIGINAL Rotating Iron is a HOT tool, so just like your traditional flat iron and curling iron, you should be careful to avoid having the hot surfaces come in contact with your skin. To assist you, we have included the Thermal Shield Styling Aid.

Remember, even after attaching the Thermal Shield Styling Aid, the exposed rotating cylinder and the bristle-side are still HOT, so care must still be used when styling with the ORIGINAL Rotating Iron.
