THE

MODERN

PERM

FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT

“Unchanged indefinitely” and “hair” are two words that just don't sound right next to each other. But, if you’ve paid attention to trends since the 80’s, you know that the perm is still relevant. Thankfully, today there’s a new twist on the perm, and we’ve come up with a few hacks to nail the modern perm, without making any permanent changes.

Perm hair, Cerasilk Curling Iron, Curling Wand

CURL IT

Grab your CERASILK Curling Iron and get to work! Starting with the lower layers of your hair, take a half-inch section of hair and spray with PRIME Transforming Spray. Wrap using the cool touch grip tip and hold in place for 5 seconds. Release hair from the barrel and repeat throughout the entire head of hair. Either leave as is for a bigger than better perm or gently comb out the curls for a more modern, textured perm.

Modern perm, wavy perm, hair braid perm

BRAID IT

The defining feature of the modern perm are soft bends – different than the frizzier, bigger curls of the OG perm. Our solution for these perfect easy, breezy bends starts with a simple braid. Start with wet hair and apply curling mousse. Take sections of hair and scrunch in your hand. Give your hair a french braid. Sleep with your hair in the braid and if not completely dry by morning, lightly dry hair with a dryer while still in the braid. Release and finish off with shine spray.

Pin curls, bobby pins, tutorial

With damp hair, massage texture spray into the roots – this will help hold the bouncy, voluminous curls in place (temporarily). Section hair into one inch pieces and starting with one piece, roll the hair up from the end to the roots and secure with a bobby pin. Continue until your entire head of hair has been bobby pinned in place. Diffuse hair until it’s completely dry and begin pulling out the pins. Brush out until your desired style.
